Reports To: Program Director

Work Time: 35 hours per week, July 2nd- September 2nd.

Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Staff In Training are responsible for the support of all areas of camp operation as needed. By exposing SIT’s to many different areas they will gain experience and an understanding of which area they may want to work in during future summers. This may include assisting counselors with development & delivery of our leadership-based and camper programs on property, helping with basic maintenance projects, assisting program staff with equipment prep/maintenance or with program delivery. Other duties as required. SIT’s must possess strong collaboration skills & be passionate about working with adolescents (aged 7-17 years). This position requires adaptability & an for personal growth. These positions will assist with implementing and monitoring health & safety protocols in accordance with provincial reopening guidelines and Public Health policies. For your safety and the safety of others, all Scouts Canada employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as a condition of employment (unless they have a valid exemption). Proof of vaccination status will be requested upon hire in addition to a clean Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

General Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for supporting counselors with aspects of the leadership development and camper programs, including helping to plan activities and required materials.
  2. Responsible for all equipment used in the assigned programs they are covering.
  3. Support maintenance team with work around the property or as it relates to maintaining covid protocols.
  4. Provide support to program staff with delivery of activities, clean up, prep or equipment management
  5. Attend weekly growth/team building sessions with the Camp Director
  6. Assist in the set-up/take down of camp & weekly turnover to various user groups.
  7. Contribute to implementing all health & safety protocols on-site (as assigned).
  8. Ability to work non-traditional business hours (as required).
  9. Complete all paperwork promptly as needed.
  10. Assist in other duties as requested by the Camp Director. 

Qualifications

  1. Experienced or strong desire to work with youth
  2. LIT experience a strong asset
  3. Pool qualifications an asset
  4. Able to support youth with difficult challenges and seek support from other staff when needed
  5. Willing to train in accessibility & inclusion to meet all participants’ needs.
  6. Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  7. Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a close partnership for the duration of the contract.
  8. Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C).
  9. Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principles & Practices of Scouts Canada.
  10. Proven leadership, teamwork, planning & administrative abilities.
  11. Strong communication & customer service skills.
  12. Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
