Inclusion Staff (Camp Samac)

REPORTS TO: Inclusion Coordinator

WORK TIME: Due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, our Properties Operations team is working to determine a reopening date for our 2022 summer program. This position is anticipated to begin on-site between July 4th – July 18th and will work full-time hours (35 hours per week), Monday – Friday, until September 2nd, 2022. Further information regarding mandatory training dates & the official start date will be confirmed in the onboarding process.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Our Inclusion Staff are responsible for supporting campers with a variety of exceptional needs to optimize enjoyment in our Summer Camp program. Inclusion Staff will assist Camp Counsellors in encouraging adventure, increasing participation, and facilitating the development of new skills and interests for kids. Inclusion Staff are responsible for accommodating and modifying program plans to meet the physical, cognitive, and social needs of identified youth. This position requires passion for inclusion principles and a sound understanding of tools and strategies necessary for successful integration.


  1. Plan, modify, or adapt existing program plans within an assigned camper group.
  2. Support participants in acquiring various outdoor skills (i.e., fire building, shelter building, orienteering, knot tying, archery).
  3. Cooperate with other staff and assist in the organization and supervision of camp activities and special events.
  4. Weekly submission of any supply request forms to the Program Coordinators.
  5. Responsible for the safety and care of each camper assigned in their care at all times.
  6. Write up and follow up on all incident reports as required.
  7. Obtain and share pertinent camper information with necessary staff (e.g., potential behaviours, interests, effective strategies).
  8. Responsible for ensuring hygiene needs are met when applicable (e.g., feeding, toileting).
  9. Communicate with campers’ loved one(s) to report successes and challenges regularly; complete Communication Logs as required.
  10. Other duties as required.


  1. Minimum 16 years of age.
  2. Capable of adapting planning for children (aged 5-13 years) in a recreational setting.
  3. Familiarity with effective inclusion strategies and tools (i.e., visual schedules, choice boards, First-Then boards).
  4. Relevant education (e.g., Autism & Behavioural Sciences, Nursing, Social Work, PSW, DSW, etc.) considered an asset.
  5. Clear understanding of a variety of exceptional needs (e.g., ADHD, ASD, ODD, FAS, Down Syndrome, Anxiety, etc.).
  6. Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C) certificate.
  7. Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principles & Practices of Scouts Canada.
  8. Strong communication skills with an interest in developing personal leadership abilities.
  9. Values constructive feedback and opportunities for professional growth.
  10. Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  11. Willingness to complete all necessary training, including additional pre-camp training if deemed necessary.
  12. Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
