Reports to: Camp Director and Program Coordinator/Waterfront Coordinator

General Description 

The Program Staff are responsible for the day-to-day facilitation of outdoor adventure programming on property for guests. This staff team will be responsible for maintaining assigned equipment to ensure safe operation on site. The Program Staff will provide instruction to property users in various capacities (i.e. Archery, Climbing Wall, Rappelling, Trappers Cabin etc.). The Program Staff will monitor the booking schedule to ensure guests are able to access the designated equipment and staff at assigned times. This position requires adaptability & an interest in supporting the Senior Staff with maximizing recreation on property while adhering to all provincial reopening guidelines and Public Health protocols. Successful applicants over the age of 18 will need to provide a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist different program areas
  • Run and assist in camp wide events/activities
  • Responsible for maintenance of programming equipment & resources.
  • Be an effective role model to campers and This includes but is not limited to:
    • Living the vision, mission and values of Scouts Canada
    • Respectful treatment of all campers/staff
    • Compliance with all rules/regulations and safety procedures
    • Appropriate communication and interactions prior to, during and after camp
    • Maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout the employment period
    • Displaying enthusiasm for activities, personal cleanliness, dress, speech, manners, and positive relations with campers/staff.
  • Actively participate in the resolution of concerns that may arise within the team or with campers
  • Notify the Program Supervisor and Camp Director of any concerns as they
  • Be prepared and on time for all shifts assigned to
  • Participate in staff
  • Program planning; ensure session plans are developed, understood and approved by the Program Supervisor and/or Program Lead to ensure programs are in line with and meeting the objectives of the activities
  • Program delivery; ensure program plans are being followed, adequate program supplies are available, and campers are having a fun, safe, and engaging high quality camp experience
  • Program participation: participate enthusiastically in all camp programs and provide opportunities for campers to experience success.
  • Program review: check campers’ experience at the end of the activity and ensure review tasks are completed accurately and on-time including review of session plans, safety incident reports, supply and inventory logs and weekly camper reports as directed
  • Camper supervision: with the campers’ leaders, ensure campers are always being safely supervised and supported during program experiences
  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and shares with the staff team the duties to ensure the program areas are prepared, clean, organized and safe
  • Work independently and as a team to complete tasks set
  • Assist in the orderly and secure storage of equipment and tools
  • Assist in conducting pre-camp and post-camp activities and inventory of supplies
  • Assist different program areas
  • Run and assist in camp wide events/activities
  • Responsible for maintenance of programming equipment & resources.
  • Assist with other duties outside of this description as assigned 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Standard First Aid with CPR Certification, Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Certifications may be required for specific areas such as lifeguard, watercraft, ropes, riflery.
  • Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable sector check and all required training by the date provided by the Camp Director.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector search or willing to obtain one (n/a to applicants under the age of 18).
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete the Scouts Canada Screening and Training requirements.

  • Proven leadership, teamwork, planning & administrative abilities.
  • Strong communication & customer service skills.
  • Direct experience facilitating outdoor activities.
  • Experienced in working in a camp environment.
