Store Manager — Haliburton Scout Reserve

Work Term: June 16 - August 23, 2024

General Description:

The Store Manager is responsible for the operation of the Store(s) including staff training, stock orders, image, and cleanliness. The store manager will be involved in pricing, deposits, and store administration work. The store manager will ensure that store staff help guests to the highest standard.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be an effective role model to campers and This includes but is not limited to:
    • Living the vision, mission and values of Scouts Canada
    • Respectful treatment of all campers/staff
    • Compliance with all rules/regulations and safety procedures
    • Appropriate communication and interactions prior to, during and after camp
    • Maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout the employment period
    • Displaying enthusiasm for activities, personal cleanliness, dress, speech, manners, and positive relations with campers/staff
  • Actively participate in the resolution of concerns that may arise within the team or with campers and implement appropriate processes for the management of such.
  • Notify the Camp Director of any concerns as they
  • Be prepared and on time for all shifts assigned
  • Work independently and as team to complete tasks set
  • Lift up to 15kg (30 lbs) safely and stand for extended periods of
  • Provide input to the store and trading post operations including retail supply purchases such as souvenirs and clothing
  • Work closely with other Senior Staff in developing weekly schedules and joint activities
  • Conduct a weekly store/trading post operation review and provide highlights and opportunities to the Camp
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards for all food handling, and ensure all displays meet safety standards
  • Establish, schedule and monitor the daily cleaning of the all areas and equipment in the store, trading post and snack shack
  • Provide frequent inventory and sales reports of all food and merchandise to the Camp Director
  • Prepare and expedite food and merchandise orders in consultation with the Camp Director
  • With office staff, prepare sales/income reports, bank deposits, year-to-year comparison, year-to-date reports, and other bookkeeping reports as required
  • With store and trading post staff, develop and maintain functional displays and signage for all food and merchandise that meet needs of campers
  • Develop, coach and supervise store and trading post staff and provide feedback to direct reports (written evaluations required for mid-summer and end of contract).
  • Assist with other duties outside of this description

 

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Standard First Aid with CPR Certification, Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Food Handling Certification
  • Experienced in developing, coaching and supervising peer staff
  • Strong communication and human relations skills
  • Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable sector check and all required training by the date provided by the Camp Director.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector search or willing to obtain one (n/a to applicants under the age of 18).
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete the Scouts Canada Screening and Training requirements.

  • Proven leadership, teamwork, planning & administrative abilities.
  • Strong communication & customer service skills.
  • Retail sales and marketing experience an asset
  • Proven leadership skills and demonstrated appropriate attitude, skills and knowledge for the position
  • Experienced in working in a camp environment.
  • Food Handlers Certificate or equivalent certification an asset
  • Experience in food service which includes prepping, cooking, cleaning, and storage of.
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
