YLT-20 Questions

Have you ever played 20 questions? Think of an object. Then, by answering yes or no questions, try to get the rest of your team to guess what you are thinking of!

Plan

  • Where will you share this adventure?
  • How much time will you take to play?
  • What strategy will you use to guess?
  • How can you think of something that might be hard to guess?

Do

  • Select one person to go first. That person should think of an object.
  • The rest of the group then asks yes or no questions about the object.
  • The group can ask up to 20 questions (including guesses). If they cannot figure out the object in 20 questions, the person thinking of the secret object wins!
  • If someone does guess the object correctly, it is now their turn to think of an object.

Review

  • What do you know now that you did not know before?
  • What strategy did you use to guess?
  • How successful were you guessing what others were thinking of?
  • If you were to play this again, what would you do differently?
  • When would it be fun to play this game again?

Keep it Simple

  • Help youth to think of objects by working together to create a list of potential objects. Put these objects in a hat and have youth pick an object at the start of their turn.
  • Do not limit the number of questions to 20 – you can use a higher number, or keep asking questions until the object has been guessed.

Take it Further

  • This game can always be taken further! Create rules around what the object could be – Scouting-related choices are always good!
