Wood Badge 1

As a volunteer with Scouts Canada, you are required to complete basic mandatory training in order to become active and compliant. The following training is required upon registering as a volunteer; 

The Next Step - Wood Badge 1 

Before you count as ratio and within the first year of being a volunteer, you are also required to complete the full Wood Badge Part I (Milestone WB - MS1) for your role. 

Section and Support Scouters Require - Wood Badge 1 for The Canadian Path 

Group Committee Members Require - Wood Badge 1 for Group Committee 

Group Commissioners Require - Wood Badge 1 for Group Commissioners 

All mandatory training is available online through E-learning on the David Huestis Learning Centre, assessable through your myscouts.ca account.

Outdoor Skills for Volunteers

June 4-5, 2022 
Camp Samac Scout Centre, 275 Conlin Rd East, Oshawa, Ontario

Scouting is an outdoors program so to aid Volunteers in preparing outdoors program for the youth, we will hold workshops to help build Scouters skills and comfort level. These workshops will cover planning, safety, menus, cooking outdoors, first aid, camping skills, camp set-up, and information about places to go.
Tenting is available.

On the Water

Intro to Canoeing for Volunteers

Saturday August 27, 2022 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Camp Samac Scout Centre, 275 Conlin Rd E, Oshawa, Ontario 
 
Who is the course geared for?
Scouters you are inexperienced and unfamiliar with the activity of canoeing.
 
Goal of the day:
Help Scouters be familiar around the water and canoe equipment. To spark the desire to further explore training for themselves and the youth with certified instructors and to take part in provincially certified canoe courses.
 
Prerequisites:
Must supply own personal properly fitted PFD, is mandatory to wear a PFD. Camp Samac can provide some PFD’s if needed (must be pre-arranged)
Participants must be able to confidently swim 100m (4 lengths of most municipal pools) No swim test will be given, swimming ability is to be assessed prior to attending.
 
Note:
This course is not intended to prepare/certify a Scouter to be the lead guide for a youth canoe day or canoe trip.
Scouts Canada COVID protocols & local health unit guidelines will be followed. There will be no indoor gathering.
We will paddle in the rain and move off the water if there is thunder and/or lighting.
 
PARTICIPANTS TO SUPPLY OWN LUNCH, SNACKS AND DRINKS
