For any new Scouters who do not know what a Beaveree is – well – it is a big celebration – get together for all the Beaver Colonies from Victoria and across Vancouver Island get together for the day.  We plan a day of community stations to come to the camp so the Beavers come and walk around with their colonies and can participate in various activities from canoeing, to playing with Lego to bouncing on a huge bouncy castle.  There are anywhere from 25 to 30 activities for the youth to participate in during the day. We plan it according to a theme that is picked so we can plan crafts and costumes.

Local organizations that come share in the fun & provide interactive educational & cultural activities, in an outdoor super fun themed day. All stations are volunteer run by community & multicultural organizations. Bouncy castle, Dunk Tank & tug of war!

Dress for the weather (hat, sunscreen, running shoes, light coat)

Volunteers Still Needed!

One adult (can be a parent volunteer) to lead a couple older youth (could be Scouts) - parking only

OR

Two (or three) Venturers (or Rovers) to work together as a team – parking and ‘runner’ during the event

Quick outline what’s required (details will be provided closer to the day):

Parking

  • Starting at 8am for a debrief with Kim, then cars will start arriving by 830ish but all will likely be parked by 915-930 when the event starts.
  • High vis vests must be worn – will be provided
  • Must be willing to approach car windows and smile and welcome them to Beaveree, must be able to communicate with the other parking volunteers about how full the lots are getting, issues that come up etc.  (cell phones are ideal, we MAY have radios available but I’d have to look into that)

Parking and Runner

Parking jobs noted above and, after the cars are parked - attend Opening (wear the vest) at the Amphitheatre, we'll point them out to the participants - these volunteers will be a source for answers to questions.

Being a runner (maybe there’s a better name for this – we welcome ideas) involves:

  • Walking around the main playing field, visit the stations, say hello, interact with the groups.  Answer questions group leaders might have - about where things are at camp, etc what time is the tug of war etc (please be approachable, make eye contact, smile.)
  • Keeping an eye on the water jugs at the central water refill station and filling them with the hose at Keego as required
  • Alerting Kim to any safety issue or first aid requirement.
  • Be the runner for a group who has a 'lost youth' to alert Kim ASAP.
  • Be in communication with the other runners, if anything is needed. Spread out so there's a runner in different areas of the event.
  • Open to suggestions from the runners on how else they could contribute to making the event fun.
