A special thank you to the following individuals for supporting special initiatives.

Ann Marie Sweeney, B.A. LL.B wanted to fund a program for older youth that focuses on their needs at two key crossroads in their lives: finding their post-secondary educational path and navigating their route from school to work.

With Mrs. Sweeney’s generous gift, Scouts Canada developed The Pathways to Your Future Program that will launch in 2020. This special initiative will offer 100 participants career counselling, skills development and mentorship as they complete their individual, youth-proposed and youth-led Scouting project.

Furthermore, youth who participate in the Pathways to Your Future program will receive professional career coaching in one of two tracks: Career Exploration or Workforce Entry Support. By way of providing Scouting youth with the necessary real-world skills and experiences to become ready for post-secondary education or the workforce, this Scouts Canada program will help us follow our Mission of developing well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.

It is with utmost gratitude that we thank Brenda Sweeney and her family for providing Scouting youth with this influential gift. Connect with us below to learn more about this meaningful program.

Robert W. Clark has been a long-time supporter of the Scouting movement, generously leaving a portion of his estate to Scouts Canada. Mr. Clark’s estate has provided us with the means necessary to develop our Group Support Centre – and the newly defined role of Group Commissioner – enabling thousands of young Canadians to further engage in safe, youth-led programming nationwide.

Accountable to the assigned Relationship Manager, the Group Commissioner provides leadership to ensure safe, high-quality programming and effective delivery of our core curriculum, The Canadian Path, at the Group and Section level.

As our front-line volunteer managers, Group Commissioners play a critical role in building a healthy and vibrant Scouting movement in Canada. They are the visible ambassador of Scouts Canada within their communities. We thank the Clark family for providing us with an opportunity to develop this influential role in Scouting. Their kindness has enhanced our brand promise to deliver incredible, first-time experiences that will help youth build self-confidence and forge lifelong friendships.

In addition to 44 years of uniformed service, including serving with distinction overseas and receiving the Military Cross, Major General Herb C. Pitts dedicated much of his life to Scouts Canada. Herb’s significant contribution to our organization has influenced youth in communities within Tri-Shores Council, across the country in his role as National Commissioner and abroad as International Commissioner.

Honouring the considerable impact he had on youth in Scouting, Herb was awarded the Silver Wolf and Medal of Merit. Passing away in 2018, Mr. Pitts will forever be remembered as a true role model.

In 2019, the Scouts Canada Foundation approved the naming of one of our scholarships in his memory. This award, the Herb Pitts Memorial Scholarship, is to honour the long-standing loyalty of Mr. Pitts to Scouting.

Major General Herb C. Pitts continues to shine a light on our Scouting youth. We are honoured to carry on his legacy through our Scholarship Program so that youth in Canada are given an opportunity to explore their academic interests and achieve future success. We thank him for his dedication and service to the Scouting movement.
