Scouts Canada launches Family Adventure Camp 2021

May 06, 2021

Three Scouts Canada properties to host family camping this summer!

Scouts Canada is thrilled to be launching a new pilot-program this summer that will allow family bubbles to enjoy three of Scouts Canada’s amazing camp properties. Our Scouting families have expressed their strong connection to summer camps and working with provincial and municipal authorities, we are proud to be delivering this exciting new camping experience the whole family can enjoy.  The three properties taking part in this new adventure include:

  • Camp Opemikon — Maberly, ON
  • Camp Samac — Oshawa, ON
  • Woodland Trails Camp — Whitchurch-Stouffville, ON

The summer pilot-program will be open to all active Scouting families, including families who currently have a child registered in Scouts, are active Scouts Canada volunteers, as well as Scouts Canada staff. Guests will be required to maintain their family bubble and stay safely distanced from others at all times while on-site. Scouts Canada role/section information will be required for booking.

Family Adventure Camp has been designed to offer a genuine Scouts Canada camping and programming experience and will be offered during the months of July and August. Scouting families looking for adventure this summer will be able to book a variety of overnight accommodations at the three locations or book for Day-Use only. Cabin and tent sites will be available to book, with most cabin bookings available for 1-week increments.  For the properties offering tent sites, stay requirements will be more flexible. Family Adventure day passes will be available based on Covid-19 capacity restrictions.

Along with family camping opportunities, each property will be offering a full suite of on-site amenities, activities and programming which are all included as part of the camping price or Day-Use pass:

Amenities

  • Beach access with lifeguards on duty
  • Volleyball court
  • Use of canoes, kayaks, paddle-boats

Scouts Canada will open bookings for Family Adventure Camping in mid-May using the Double-Knot booking website.  It is anticipated that bookings for cabin accommodations will be made available first, followed by tent sites.  Booking for Day-Use passes will begin in June for visits planned in July and August.

In addition to Family Adventure Camp offerings, select properties will be offering a Leadership Training day-program designed for youth 12-16 years old. The program will run weekly in July & August with a focus on fostering community and belonging, personal development, and professional skill-building.

Scouts Canada has worked extensively with local and provincial health authorities to ensure this new Family Adventure Camp model meets all COVID-19 safety guidelines.  This is an excellent opportunity for Scouting families to get outside and enjoy nature this summer while also staying safe.
