Scouts Canada will Continue to Monitor the Roll-out of Vaccines to Children 5- to 11-years-old

December 17, 2021

No Change to Our Current Vaccination Policy

The federal government has recently approved COVID-19 vaccines for children between the ages of 5 and 11. With vaccinations of children across the country now underway, Scouts Canada’s Board of Governors has considered both if and when to extend its vaccine mandate to this age group.

The board reiterates its support for vaccination and the critical role it plays in allowing us to return to a more normal Scouting experience. We hope that everyone who is able will get vaccinated at their earliest opportunity. Amid a rapidly changing landscape, we believe that, consistent with our Guiding Principles, the decision at this time must be to continue monitoring and evaluating as opposed to making any immediate changes.

Scouts Canada is making no changes to our current vaccination policy. Registered participants between the ages of 5 and 11 may continue attending all in-person Scouting events, with local COVID-19 restrictions still applicable (ie. mask wearing).

Ending this pandemic is critical for helping kids get back to being kids.

Scouts Canada continues to consistently use our Guiding Principles to shape our response and requirements. As always, our top priority is the health and safety of youth and adult members, a responsibility that we can all contribute to by following COVID-19 restrictions.

As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our response has evolved over the last 21 months, we will continue to review and evaluate our actions and policies to ensure they are aligned with our principles and reflect the most current conditions. We continue to support the federal government and associated health authorities, agreeing that widespread vaccine coverage is the most effective path toward ending the pandemic for all.
