- What board games do you like to play? What do you like about them?
- What will the object of your game be (what do you have to do to win the game)?
- What supplies will you need for your game?
- Will you create your game alone, in a pair or in a small team?
Do
- Decide what kind of game you are going to make and sketch it out. Figure out what you will need for your game and what you will need to make it.
- Gather your supplies and start creating!
- Don’t forget to create a rulebook so that everyone can learn how to play your game.
Review
- Once everyone is done building their games, take turns testing them out!
- When real board games are tested, reviewers give feedback – give feedback to the people who made the game but remember to give constructive feedback.
- What worked well about the game? What did you enjoy?
- Is there anything that did not work well about the game or that was hard to understand?
Materials
Materials list – these are just some ideas to get you started!
- Pizza box, Bristol board, etc. to act as the game board
- Scissors
- Drawing materials – pens, pencils, pencil crayons, etc.
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Glue or tape
- Dice
Keep it Simple
- Start by “blueprinting” or drawing out your board game. Design the board, the pieces, cards, etc. and write out your rules.
Take it Further
- How can you make your game look more professional? See if you can print/laminate materials or even 3D print your game pieces! If you’re not sure where to get started, your local library, university or makerspace might be able to help you out.
