Plan

  • How long will this game take to play?
  • What are the rules of this game?
  • What materials do you need for this game?

Do

  • Divide the group into 2 equal teams
  • Give each group a stack of paper or a big piece of cardboard or poster board and a marker
  • The game leader will have a list of words (could be random, could have a “theme”) but make sure you have enough to fill the time of the game length. Consider having a list of 50-100 words.
  • The game starts with one person from each team meeting with the leader and the leader will tell them the first word on the list
  • The drawers will head back to their teams and start to draw the word, not using any sounds or letters and not talking trying to get their team to guess the word.
  • Once someone has guessed the word, the person who guessed will then run to the leader to ask for the next word and repeat the steps.
  • The goal is to try to get as many words as possible on the list drawn/guessed by your team before the time runs out.

Review

  • What strategies did you use to help your team?
  • What did you find challenging about this activity?
  • How could you adapt this game to run longer or shorter?

Materials

  • Markers/writing utensils
  • Paper/cardboard
  • List of words (50-100)

Keep it Simple

  • Brainstorm the list of words together. That way, everyone knows what the words are ahead of time. Have the leader re-order the words before giving them out (cutting them up and putting them in a hat to draw out one at a time is an easy way to do this).
  • This game can be played virtually as well! Use the whiteboard feature on your video conferencing software and play as one big team!

Take it Further

  • The harder the words, the harder the game! Rather than simple words, use more complicated words or things that may be harder to draw (forgetting your shopping list, planning a trip, sweet dreams, etc.).
