Plan

  • Where will you play this game?
  • What will you need to make your name tags?
  • What pictures will you draw to share who you are?
  • Share your names in the circle before you play the game.

Do

  • Have you ever played the game Duck, Duck, Goose? Chances are you have.
    • Players sit in a circle, and one person (who is “it”) walks around the circle tapping others on their heads or shoulders and saying the word “duck”.
    • When the person who is “it” says “Goose!” instead of “duck”, the person who is “it” starts to run around the circle.
    • The person who was called “goose” has to chase the player who is “it” and tag him or her before the player who is “it” gets to the open spot in the circle and sits down.
  • Play this game a different way to get to know the other members of your Section.
  • First make name tags. Print your name on paper and draw some small pictures to share a bit about who you are.
  • Pin your name tag to the top of your hat or the back of your shirt.
  • Now play “Duck, Duck, Goose!”, but instead of saying “duck”, the person who is “it” will say the names of the other people in the circle.
  • If the person who is “it” forgets someone’s name, they can say “goose” instead. The person who was called “goose” has to chase the player who is “it” and tag him or her before the player who is “it” gets to the open spot in the circle and sits down.

Review

  • What do you know now that you did not know before?
  • What was your favourite part of this game?
  • What did you draw on your name tag? Why?
  • What did you find out about some else? What do you have in common?

Keep it Simple

  • Play in your Lodges or Lairs rather than in one big group – once you’re comfortable with the names of the people in your Lodge or Lair, play a game with the whole group.

Take it Further

  • Think of some other games that you can change into a name game. Is there a way to play freeze tag and make it a name game?
