Plan

  • What materials do you need for the activity?
  • What animals will you learn about?
  • How will you stay safe in this activity?

Do

  • As a Section, start by writing down as many animals as you can onto small pieces of paper and place them all in a large bowl.
  • Next, there are a few ways you can play this game!
  • Follow the Leader: have one person pick an animal from the bowl and move around like that animal, while everyone else must follow their actions!
  • Charades: one person pick an animal and imitates how the animal moves around, while everyone else tries to guess! Then, take turns.
  • Freeze the Zoo: Everyone chooses an animal to act out at the same time, when a Scouter says “FREEZE!”, youth switch their animal with another youth close by and imitates that animal and repeat!

Some animal ideas:

  • Stomp like a Bear
  • Swim like a Fish
  • Hop like a Deer
  • Slither like a Snake
  • Scamper like a Squirrel
  • Scurry like a Mouse
  • Fly like a Bird
  • Glide like a Canada Goose

Review

  • What did you learn about how animals move around?
  • Which animal movement was your favourite?
  • What might you do differently next time?
  • Remember to submit your activities on our Scouts for Sustainability Take Action Map to the Review section.

Materials

  • Paper
  • Pens
  • Large Bowl

Keep it Simple

  • Work through these animal movements as a Section first so that everyone can learn a bit about the actions before jumping into the games.

Take it Further

  • Instead of just making the animal movements and actions, make an obstacle course that you’ll have to navigate as if you were that animal – from start to finish!
