Plan

  • How will you divide into teams for your relay?
  • What activities will you include in your relay?
  • What equipment do you need for your relay?

Do

Plan a winter relay for your Section.

  • Break your Section into teams for this activity. You might want to use your Lodges, Lairs or Patrols, or make different teams.
  • Plan a series of challenges for everyone to do as they go through the relay. There’s no limit to what you can do, but here are a few ideas to get you started!
    • Try to hit a target with a snowball.
    • Pull a toboggan through a short obstacle course (for an added challenge, add some weight to the toboggan)
    • Dribble a soccer ball around a marked area.
    • Throw a frisbee into a marked area on the ground.
  • Set up your relay so that there are as many courses as there are teams (that way each team can move through at their own speed).
  • Have all the teams line up and have the first player from each team start going through the course. When they finish all the challenges and make it back to the starting line, the next person from their team can start!
  • The great part about designing your own race is that you can make it as hard or as easy as you want, so that it can be fun for everyone!

Review

  • What was the most challenging part of this activity?
  • How did your team work together to complete the course?
  • Would you do anything differently next time?
  • Remember to submit your activities on our Scouts for Sustainability Take Action Map to the Review section.

Materials

  • Equipment for your challenges – frisbees, toboggans, balls, etc. are a good place to start if you don’t know what to use!

Keep it Simple

  • Rather than racing, set up different winter-themed challenges for everyone to try!
