Rover Scouts (Age 18–26)

Who are Rover Scouts?

Rover Scouts are the most senior Section of the Scouting program and are for young people ages 18-26. Although many Rover Scouts have progressed through all or most of the younger Scouting Sections, a Rover Scout is for any young person interested in self-discovery through adventure. Teaming with other like-minded young people, Rover Scouts explore how they can fit and contribute as members of their community.

A Rover Scout Section is called a “Crew”.  Although teamwork is important, Rover Scouts will “Paddle their own Canoe” as a basis for helping them develop their abilities and skills to help them through the journey of these early adult years. Personal Development Plans are a general framework that a Rover will use to guide their path to specific goals with the support of a mentor. The motto for Rover Scouts is: Go Beyond.

WHAT DO ROVER SCOUTS DO?

Rover Scouts are generally very experienced Scouts and as such have the opportunity to explore a variety of elevated adventures.  For Rover Scouts, personal development is a key part of the adventures they undertake.  Rover Scouts may volunteer regularly at a food bank, assist with organizing and running their group’s All-Section camp, or they might organize a rappelling adventure or a multi-day portage paddling excursion.

Vocational Rovers – Within the Rover Scouts Section there are some groups that are geared towards specific vocations, such as First-Aid, Police, Fire, Paramedic and even Culinary!  These Rover Scouts Sections generally focus on specialized training in a particular field.  Often these groups will be a combined Venturer/Rover group.  Groups focused on emergency training may be referred to as “MedVents” - check out Medvents.ca - a site maintained by the 1st Downsview Group, to get some insight into the types of things a vocational group does.
